Radical Crypto Boom (WWRD 6/23/2023)

As we stated in the last Release sheet, new equipment is coming in fast. There have been quite a few balls that have been retired by the time you read this. There may be more to come. This month’s offerings are a great mix of reaction and price points. We’re sure you can find an addition or replacement to an older piece with these choices. Core numbers noted below are at 15lbs.  All bowling balls (except Polys) have a 2 year warranty from the date of purchase.

Radical Crypto Boom

 @15 lbs2.481.046 • Core - DynamiCore Crypto Symmetric 12-16 lbs  Alternate cores 12-3 lbs
Coverstock - HK22 Pearl

HK22 (HyperKinetic 22) is the hottest base formulation in bowling today. Used mostly with Pearl and Hybrid additives, it gives the shells more pop in apperance but also adds a quicker response to friction while adding traction in more volumes. If you are complimenting the original Crypto or another medium-high RG solid, the Crypto Boom will add length and directional change that will allow you to move in and open your angles. Bowlers who looked at the Crypto and saw too much reaction early will like this choice.

Coverstock - MTS-1 (Micro Textured Solid-1)

The Radical EZ-Use line has produced some of the best values in bowling. One such ball is the Sneak Attack. The Micro Textured Hybrid coverstock allowed length on drier conditions or for bowlers that are more rev dominate. The low flaring core allows for more control. With the new Sneak Attack Solid, a stronger, duller but smooth finish will allow for earlier control without using energy too soon. This is great for bowlers who need an earlier hook phase or high rev and speed players to control friction from front to back.

As we stated in the last Release sheet, new equipment is coming in fast. There have been quite a few balls that have been retired by the time you read this. There may be more to come. Core - Infinity Asymmetric (New) • Coverstock - A.X.H. Hybrid (Activator Xtreme Hook)

The new Brunswick Infinity is placed in the All Purpose category and price point. What’s different is the engine. Using a higher RG, med-high Diff and the lower-mid Int. Diff build, the Infinity core creates a clean ball motion early and picks up in the mids without being overly strong into the back friction but does keep it’s continuation. The Infinity would slot between the Mindset (Big Asym) and the Knock Out Bruiser (Strong Sym). The smoother finish allows more of a footprint and overall reaction on Medium volumes or Heavier volumes that are transitioning into more friction. You can adjust the cover to fine tune the reaction for your needs.

Track Stealth Pearl. Great core, great coverstock and now with the boost of HK22! League bowlers who want length with a more controlled backend motion are going to love the new Stealth Pearl. DynamiCore is added for durability and hitting power. Slower ball speed bowlers that need more down lane motion than their current equipment, should take a look at this one. Not a dry lane ball, but a choice for Medium to Heavy volumes when bigger core/covers start to bog down.

Hammer AXE (WWRD 5/25/2023)

As we head toward Bowl Expo and the start of Trade Show Season, there will be plenty of new releases. In the Poly and “Entry” levels, you’ll see some color combos retired and new ones added to refresh those lines.  In the other levels, some balls will be retired and new ones will be introduced. This is why this report is V1, as I expect more releases being announced soon. Please check back for new versions and tell your friends and teammates.

Core numbers noted below are at 15lbs. All bowling balls (except Polys) have a 2 year warranty from the date of purchase.

Hammer AXE

Hammer Bowling is introducing a new line that fits above the Poly lines such as the Brunswick TZones, C300 White Dots and Ebonite Maxims.

The Hammer AXE series in the 12-16lbs have the Bullet Core and while not getting much differential, that’s what you’re looking for in a ball designed to go straight for spares. The main difference is that the cover is a new Low Friction Reactive Pearl. This gives another option for different bowler styles and skills.

Experienced bowlers- The AXE is a durable spare ball option and a bit more responsive than a polyester ball.

Slower speed bowlers on high friction lanes and youth bowlers-The Hammer AXE will get down the lane and have a bit more reaction than polys, but not as quick (sharp) as Entry level options.

With the new cover, Hammer is upping the warranty to 2 years from purchase date vs. 1 year on other spare balls.

DV8 Trouble Maker (WWRD 4/20/2023)

April is bringing some great equipment to round out your bag on medium and more friction from Track Bowling. Both are built with HK22 (first 2 for Track), the hottest topic in the industry. The big game changer is the DV8 Trouble Maker. There is a lot of tech on this release, but it’s easy to drill and relate to bowlers who are looking for defined ball motions. Be sure to check this one out and get a pre-order in for 1 or more as this will be a hot seller. Core numbers noted below are at 15lbs. All bowling balls (except Polys) have a 2 year warranty from the date of purchase.

DV8 Trouble Maker

The R&D team has built the first core designed for 2-handed/no thumb bowlers.  But one handed traditional bowlers have seen great success in testing and staff reviews. We cannot explain the entire tech here, but all the information including videos explaining each step of the way is on the DV8 website link below.

As with all new equipment that you drill, your bowler specs are needed to give your shop technician all the information so they can fine tune core orientation to give you the desired ball motion you’re looking for. This includes your Positive Axis Point (PAP), Axis Tilt, Base Axis Rotation and Range, Total Ball Speed, Base Rev Rate.

With bowlers who only use 2 fingers the center of the grip is directly in the middle of the finger holes and split vertically. To assist shops in understanding how to drill the balls, DV8 has added a downloadable program named the No-Thumb Dual Angle Converter Tool.

There are various videos online with different Staff members (no thumb and traditional) who are seeing great results. The following statement is mine alone-

If you’re a bowler who uses 2 fingers only and are purchasing a DV8 Trouble Maker, consider getting 2.

If you don’t have a ball drilled for your PAP and tilt, get your numbers from a reputable shop or coach and drill one with the base number. If you are a seasoned bowler and have equipment that you understand, think about a replacement for your base (benchmark) ball and one for the motion you may be missing in your bag.

I say this as a former shop owner and over 45 years in the business. This technology is new and at this period in time, the way balls are designed is more exact than any other time in the industry. If you get more than one, drill one as a base reaction and bowl with it for awhile. Get to understand what adjustments can be made and how it affects your ball motion.

Track Kinetic Cobalt (WWRD 4/20/2023)

The big game changer is the DV8 Trouble Maker. There is a lot of tech on this release, but it’s easy to drill and relate to bowlers who are looking for defined ball motions. Track Kinetic Cobalt

The Track Kinetic line is a staple for Track Bowling and there’s a good reason. It simply works for all bowlers. The differences have always been the cover and matching up to the bowler and environment. The new Kinetic Cobalt raises the motion level with HK22 QR-7 Hybrid cover. The box finish will produce more mid-lane traction and continuation through the pins. It’s a ball that will bridge the gap big Asyms and the Track Tundra Fire. If the Kinetic Black Ice was too clean even after a surface adjustment, the Kinetic Cobalt will be a great step up in motion at a similar price point. Alternate core numbers are slightly higher RG and stronger in differential and asymmetry.

Track Tundra Fire (WWRD 4/20/2023)

Track Tundra Fire

Going back a few years, Track Bowling had the optimal control ball for higher friction surfaces and bowlers who liked straighter angles. Now Track has brought back a very similar core (300 series and named the Track Symmetrical) and wrapped it with the base HK22 DR-5 Pearl cover. This will produce a clean direction down lane and a more forgiving smooth reaction towards the pins. Adding the proven DynamiCore will aid the hitting power and durability. This is a great option for leagues that have friction from the start, transition quickly or for slower speed bowlers. Tournament bowlers can use the Tundra Fire larger block formats when lanes get toasty. 12-13 lb. cores have a slightly higher differential.
